"Untitled (potential)"

2008

materials: red oak sapling, chalk, latex paint, sidewalk

"Untitled (potential)" was installed on the 1700 block of Charles Street in Baltimore Maryland for Artscape 2008. In this work, a Red Oak sapling was planted on the stumps of the Bradford Pears that had been cut down along the entirety of the street to make way for new streetscaping. The shadow of the sapling was then traced and painted on the sidewalk. The installation remained until the concrete was removed for the new sidewalk six months later. The Red Oak was planted a few blocks away on North Avenue where it remains a small but unintimidated street tree to this day.
